Introduction
The Canadian Tooth Fairies Association / L’Association Canadienne des Fées des Dents (CTFA/ACFD) is a newly established non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in pediatric dentistry education for dental professionals across Canada.
The CTFA will host its Winter Annual Conference in 2027. This event invites pediatric dental specialists and general dentists whose practices focus on children from across Canada and the United States to gather for two days of professional development, including high-quality scientific sessions. Attendees will enjoy continuing education in a premier Canadian ski resort setting, combining learning with the opportunity to take part in winter activities.

Ask Anesthesia: The Questions Pediatric Dentists Want Answered
Presented by Dr. Peter Collins, MD, Pediatric Anesthesiologist
How young is too young for a dental GA? How do we meaningfully discuss anesthetic risk with families? Which children belong in hospital rather than an office or surgical centre? Which medications should be taken on the morning of surgery—and what can we do about the child who is terrified before they even reach the OR?
This interactive session puts the questions pediatric dentists regularly ask—and sometimes debate—to an anesthesiologist. From patient selection and timing of GA to premedication, perioperative medications, anesthetic complications and emergence delirium, the discussion will focus on the practical questions that arise in everyday pediatric dental practice and what the evidence and anesthesia experience can tell us.

Navigating Difficult Conversations: A Psychiatrist’s Guide to Communicating with Patients and Parents
Presented by Dr. Richard Elcock, MD, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Back by popular demand. This session explores how pediatric dentists can navigate challenging conversations with children, adolescents, and their parents. Drawing on a child and adolescent psychiatry perspective, Dr. Elcock will provide practical strategies for managing emotionally charged interactions, addressing conflict and unrealistic expectations, setting boundaries, delivering difficult information, and communicating effectively when anxiety, anger, or distress is high.

Pediatric Oral Health Challenges: Case Studies in Oral Medicine and Pathology
Presented by Dr. Firoozeh Samim, Oral Medicine & Oral Maxillofacial Pathologist
This session takes a case-based approach to highlight how oral medicine, and pathology intersect in pediatric dental care. Each case moves beyond “routine dentistry” and shows how collaboration and careful assessment can lead to earlier diagnoses, safer management, and better outcomes for children.
